Trained as a painter in a fine arts school in Vancouver in the late '90's, I painted and exhibited my artworks throughout western Canada for about ten years before moving to Montreal Quebec in 2007.
I continued to paint, cartoon, and teach art. In late 2008 a friend taught me how to make felt in the wet-felting process. Working in this new medium, I soon saw similarities between the layers of paint and the layers of wool. Intrigued, I also began to explore the more sculptural aspects of wool.
Teacosies, puppets, cell-phone cases, cat-toys, felted soaps, scarves... Elf boots, slippers, hats... jewelry... so many things I have made either out of fun or for commissions. Felt-making has been a fun ride!
I now teach workshops on making wool things, have had my work called for in showbiz (elf-boots for a tv movie) and am just trying to find the time to create all I would like!
In the meantime... I maintain my serious painting career. Check out my website NatashaHenderson.com for more of that.
